We're Having Seafood Tonight!

Thought I would share the very touristy Seattle thing we are doing. Having dinner at The Crab Pot (Lisa, look away as you would definitely burst into an anaphylactic shock by just walking in the door).

Of course, we started with drinks.

Terrie had a Tahitian Tornado and I had a Pirate's Punch.

Here is our feast.

Just an FYI, I had the Chowder and Salad. Terrie worked for the crab. It is too much work for me when it comes to food. I did wear the bib, though, as I could tell Forest Gump wanted to make an appearance. ;-)

I have to say, I have never seen anyone else pick a crab as clean as Terrie! It is an amazing sight to watch.

A note, she NEVER uses a crab hammer (according to her, it is an unnecessary tool).

YUM!

Wheeler St Kitchen

Nothing says yum like Butternut Squash Soup with a hint of curry, a Pulled Pork Shoulder Sandwich with Caramelized Onions and Garlic Mayo, and a side of 'Slaw.

It was so rich, even I couldn't finish it!

I must say I'm loving living this close to so many great places to eat! :-)

Additional Sonora Resort Pictures

I thought I'd post some of the other pictures we took while at the resort over our anniversary weekend.

Here's a shot from the helo while coming in for a landing.

Below is a shot of the passage from our room.

Speaking of our room, Terrie had to get shots of our fridge. All goodies inside are part of the room rate and no additional charge...along with calls to anywhere in the world.

Can't forget what's in the door...

Here's another shot of our view and room.

Terrie took me "for a drag" (i.e. Translates to "hike [with intent]") the next day (we took the BLUE trail as Terrie thought that'd be the easiest - what part of that was the "easiest", I'm not quite sure)...

...and the views (once we made it to the top of the world) were beautiful.

At one point while taking the above picture, Terrie was gesturing and couldn't tell if this meant we were at the "location of intent" or if she was holding something.... ;-)

Turns out she was just holding up the bear bell. Whew!! ;-) Let's just hope she's not "calling" a bear in. :-o

After recovering from the above "near death" experience (wink wink), we went on a boat cruise (You see what I mean by the word "intent"? For those of you who are not aware, water is another potential peril of mine.). It was just the two of us, our captain, and hostess (thank goodness there were witnesses this time). ;-)

Our Captain... He works for the resort and takes many parties out on the water throughout the day doing such things as fishing trips, eco-cruises (dolphins & whales, etc.) and more romantic cruises such as what we did.

Our hostess... She was sitting in the back as we were preparing for a somewhat fast run down to another area.

The boat cruise was really cool (and no, I didn't fall in or get wet).

We were able to see all sorts of wildlife...

Note the many heads sticking out of water in the above picture.

...some neat scenery...

Thank goodness it was really calm.

...and some uber-rich person's cool toys on one of the nearby islands.

And let's not forget Hers and His boats below....

After the boat ride, we came back and had dinner. I must say, they have the most wonderfully prepared meals. For dinner this night, I had the pasta and Terrie had the crab.

For lunch both days, I had the Sonora Burger....which was absolutely, hands down, the best burger I have ever had! It's their own mix of meat and spices - a combination of ground steaks. Even the homemade fries were great!

For a lunch side on the last day, I requested a plate full of their fresh grown tomatoes. They are absolutely wonderfully fresh tomatoes! You can see them in the background of the above picture.

On the day we left, it was rainy (to be expected in the Pacific NW - especially within the Inside Passage). Therefore, the helo flight back was mostly around the 300ft elevation level until it started clearing up. Fun!

Terrie and I on the flight back...

Coming in for a landing was really fun...

Taxiing up to the terminal where we took off, we noticed it was next to the air ambulance terminal. As you can imaging, Terrie had some flashbacks to her previous occupation. :-)

All-in-all it was a fantastic and wonderful weekend.

We both agree, Sonora Resort is a very cool place!

Lunch in The Burgh

Just got done having lunch at a little Mediterranean cafe called Daphne Cafe here in Pittsburgh.

Terrie had the Daphne Wrap...lamb, tomato, lettuce, onion in a flour tortilla.

I had the Daphne Panini...Provolone cheese, tomato, beef pepperoni, and a special red sauce in a panini toasted bun.

We, of course, both had the Humus for an appetizer. This was awesome!

Good Wine, Good Food

Mom, Dad, Terrie and I just got back from Wine tasting and Dinner in Dundee, OR. The winery we wanted to taste at was the Argyle Winery - which has a wonderful Champagne called Argyle Brut (our favorite).

After wine, cheese, and crackers, we went across the street and ate dinner at The Dundee Bistro where Terrie and I shared a wonderful hummus...

...Mom had a bun-less Burger and Fries, Terrie had the Fish...

...and Dad and I each had the Pulled Pork Hoagie (Yum!).

And poor Dixie didn't get to come...but she did get leftovers (lucky dog)!

An Ice Cream Cone Vending Machine?

Saw this outside my hotel room at the Crowne Plaza SFO Airport. I had never heard of such a thing and thought it interesting.

The picture is not the best but it actually drops the cone into a holder and fills it with the ice cream and toppings of your choosing!

Tap Room - Pittsburgh PA

Well... Now I know why UAL only has a ~46% customer satisfaction goal. Terrie and I just got delayed 24 hrs without any reimbursement or accommodations by United Airlines.

So, with all the conventions going on here in The Burgh (who knew?) and a marathon happening, nearly the entire town is booked. But fortunately we were able to find a room available at the Omni William Penn hotel. Now we're sitting in the bar (called "The Tap Room") and I just had a wonderful Club Sandwich and Cabbage Coleslaw.

See for yourself!

Best Italian Hoagie

Yesterday we had lunch again at Pepperoni's and I must say they have the best Italian Hoagie ever. So good, we ended up eating there three times!

The Italian Hoagie

The Italian Hoagie comes with salami, capacolla, pepperoni, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and homemade Italian house dressing on a toasted bun with melted provolone and mozzarella cheeses.

Can you say, "Yum!"? I did, three times!

Lemon Cream Pie

Forgot I had this picture of a very tasty Lemon Cream Pie I had while in Venice, Italy on the island of Murano (the glass factory island).

It was delicious! I was showing someone these pictures and came across this picture.

You want Fries with that....Salad??

I had to post this. It seems only in Pittsburgh (actually, I'm assuming the Greater Ohio Valley region) can you get Fries in a Salad.

Yes....I said Fries in a Salad!

Note the above proof....Also note how it's not an optional item (that's probably more of an East Coast thing though...kind of like Vanilla Ice Cream).

In Need of Ranch Dressing

Sometimes, you just gotta have Ranch Dressing...

We found it at the Hard Rock Cafe in Venice. I had the Chicken, Bacon (American Style Bacon - Yum!), Honey Burger. Terrie had the Mushroom
Burger. Double Yum!

Montepulciano, Italy - Wine Tasting and Site Seeing

One day last week (I think it was Thursday) we took a drive over to Montepulciano, Italy - another hillside town much like Cortona and just as quaint and homey.

Montepulciano and the surrounding area is known for it's wine. So on our way, we stopped at a winery and had a taste.

I had to include a picture of my lovely wife...awaiting a wine tasting.

The wine was decent. Not our favorite but not bad.

From there, we continued our drive up to Montepulciano.

As you can see, it is a pretty steep hillside town with quite the climb. From the photo below, it looks pretty flat but from the one above, you can get a sense for the steepness.

The residents do a wonderful job of keeping the quaintness and beauty of the town with their little gardens and flowerpots everywhere.

Once at the top, we arrived at the Piazza Grande (the main plaza or square) where the government clock tower and restaurants are. In the below image, we ate lunch at the restaurant just to the right of the clock tower building.

We also climbed the clock tower (not to the top of the tower but to the top of the building just beneath the clock). The stairs were very narrow and winding.

I had to turn sideways to get up them.

The view from the top was definitely beautiful.

After that we had lunch...and it was fabulous!

On the way back down, I took a different path over towards the town wall while the girls took the same way down. I wanted to get a couple more pictures of Montepulciano.

On the drive back to Cortona that afternoon, I was able to hang the camera out of the car window (Terrie is doing all of the driving) and get this picture of Cortona. The lower houses and buildings are part of Camucia, Italy (where the train station is for both Cortona and Camucia).

We're all in agreement...Cortona has been our favorite so far.

Ciao for now!
